Years ago, while living in Jacksonville, Florida, I would jog on the beach. I recall one late afternoon watching the fog roll in. Undeterred, I decided to run through the mist. Then a problem developed. I soon was running blind. I couldn’t see two feet in front of me. I slowed my pace, but I realized that the weather pattern was ruining my jog. Just then, I was upon a lady who had spread out her towel early. I reacted quickly and jumped over her before creating a disaster. Well, it scared both of us, but no real damage was done.
Sometimes life seems to greet us like a thick fog. We are lost in the dark shadows and feel hopeless, unable to see what lies ahead. Life can be like that. We can get lost in worry and apprehension. If Jesus promised, “Do not worry,” would you believe Him? Well, He did say that, not once but four times in a space of ten verses of scripture. (Matthew 6:25, 28, 31, and 34.)
The great prophet of the Old Testament, Isaiah, wrote: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10). The Word of God clears our way in the darkness. His Word serves as an absolute guide, illuminating our path and dispelling the deepest spiritual darkness. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105.
The experts say that meditation, yoga, psychotherapy, and anti-anxiety meds are the answer to secure peace in your life. Jesus offered much more. “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).
If you are in the fog, Christ can find you. If you are a child of God, based upon your faith and obedience to His will, He offers a promise: “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13, 14).
