FSU Panama City to Host Exhibition of Geno Peoples’ Art Through September

Self-taught local artist’s vibrant style celebrates the South

Florida State University Panama City will host an exhibition of art by Panama City native Geno Peoples in September. The retrospective of his work will kick off with a reception on the evening of Sept. 11, from 4:30-7 p.m.

Peoples has been drawing since he was a young child, and he identifies as a fourth-generation artist. With no formal training, he prides himself on achieving “perfection” in his work, which reflects a vibrant style celebrating the spirit of the South.

“I believe success can only be achieved through hard work, perseverance, and through the Grace of God,” Peoples said on his website, Geno-Peoples.pixels.com. “Furthermore, I believe that we are no more than the tools that power the special gift that God gives us all.”

Field and Stream magazine showcased his “Peaceful Moments” painting in its March 2006 edition, and his “Battle Ground” won the Buck Master Deer Federation painting of the year award in 2012. Peoples teaches art lessons at Hobby Lobby in Panama City.

The opening reception is free and will include complimentary food, drinks and commentary from the artist. The exhibition will be on display in the Holley Academic Center’s Allan Bense Atrium through the end of September.
