A Superior Mechanical is a 24-year-old Veteran-owned business, now serving Bay, Walton and Okaloosa Counties. For the first 23 years, we focused on Air Conditioning, keeping our customers Cool as a Cucumber! Now, as you know, in our current economic climate, many service companies are getting bought out by larger corporations; we’ve been made our fair share of offers. Companies have a choice: to either sell out or expand, and we decided to expand. I sometimes call us One of the Last Local Mom & Pops.
Late last year, we started adding services: Plumbing and Electrical. We started expanding our reach, and we now serve Destin, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach… and we continue to head west. We wanted to be our customers’ One-Stop Service Shop. So, when we really started thinking about Whole Home Systems, two more things kept coming up: Clean Air and Clean Water. Last year, we entered the world of IAQ, also known as Indoor Air Quality. This is particularly important for family members with allergies or asthma. We can come to your home or business and add Air Scrubbers, which remove pollutants in the air and reduce allergens and irritants. These activated carbon filters also help neutralize odors from pets, cooking and smoke. We started to realize all the interest in IAQ, which led us into the Pure Water space two months ago. So now we offer Water Purification Solutions such as Reverse Osmosis, which uses a semi-permeable membrane to remove impurities and contaminants from the water. Reverse Osmosis is commonly used for drinking water, desalination, water treatment in industrial processes, and F&B production.
What is the importance of Water Purification? First, Health, because it removes harmful pathogens and contaminants. We use a water softening process to remove hard chemicals from the water, namely calcium and magnesium; this also improves taste and water odor. Hard water can lead to scale build-up, which leads to problems with plumbing and problems with your appliances, including your dishwasher and washing machine. Softening the water makes it feel silkier on the skin, is better for skin and hair, and you can actually use less soap, shampoo and laundry detergent.
The primary source of water for Walton County is the Upper Floridian Aquifer; the primary source of water for Bay County is Deer Point Lake. What we’re looking for is not more than one part per million (PPM) of any of these common toxins that are in these waters: Chlorine, Lead and Copper. Environmental runoff and water treatment processes can add contaminants to water like Aluminum, Barium, Radium and Nitrate. In the warmer waters of summertime, Blue-Green Algae and Cyanotoxins are frequently found in the water and can produce toxins affecting the liver and nervous system.
