By Mark McQueen, Superintendent of Schools, Bay District Schools
As we enter this Christmas season, I’m reminded once again of what makes Bay County such a remarkable place to live, work, and learn. This time of year invites us to pause and reflect on the blessings in our lives, and in Bay District Schools, those blessings are truly abundant. The spirit of giving, generosity, and compassion shines brightly across our community, and it’s one of the many reasons I believe so strongly in the future of our district.
Every day, our employees pour their hearts into educating, guiding, and supporting the 28,000 students entrusted to us. Their commitment forms the foundation of everything we do. But what elevates our mission, and what makes our district so special, is the way our community stands shoulder to shoulder with us, ensuring every child feels valued and cared for.
This season, we’ve seen extraordinary generosity from partners who continue to invest directly in the well-being of our students. Backpack Blessings Panama City Beach prepared and packed more than $7,000 worth of food, over 5,600 meals, to support our beach students over the Thanksgiving holiday. Bear Creek Assembly of God came alongside Waller Elementary to help feed more than 200 families. Manuel & Thompson continued their long-running Coats for Kids campaign, providing warm coats to 600 of our most vulnerable students. And the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, through Operation Thankful, delivered more than 400 turkeys and meals to families across the district.
These acts of kindness do more than meet immediate needs. They send a powerful message that this community believes in our children, believes in our educators, and believes in the work we are doing to put the “A” back in Bay. That belief fuels our momentum as we continue expanding opportunities, strengthening programs, and building a brighter future for every student.
As Christmas approaches, I hope you find time to enjoy the simple joys of the season: togetherness, peace, and the warmth of family and friends. Thank you for your generosity, your partnership, and your enduring belief in Bay District Schools.
From our BDS family to yours, Merry Christmas, and may this season bring blessings to your home.
