It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into October. The first weeks of school are behind us, routines are taking shape, and across Bay District Schools, our students and teachers are doing what they do best: learning, growing and finding new opportunities to succeed.
One of my favorite parts of this job is getting into our schools and seeing that work firsthand. Whether it’s visiting a classroom, watching students learn a new skill in one of our career and technical programs, cheering from the sidelines on a Friday night or seeing our students perform on a stage, I’m continually reminded that some of the most important learning happens when students discover something they’re passionate about.
You’ll see a great example of that in this month’s issue with Surfside Middle School’s new culinary program. What started as an idea for one elective class drew interest from more than 250 students. That response says a lot about what happens when we listen to our students and create opportunities that connect learning to the real world.
As we move further into the school year, I’m grateful for the teachers and employees who make those opportunities possible and for the families, businesses and community partners who continue to support our schools.
There is a lot to be proud of in Bay District Schools, and there is even more ahead. Thank you for continuing to Say YES to BDS and, most importantly, for believing in our students.
