All mateys, fair maidens and swashbucklers are invited for the Oct. 9-11 return of the annual Pirates of the High Seas & Renaissance Fest in Panama City Beach. During this free three-day festival, attendees can show out in their best pirate and Renaissance garb and enjoy fireworks, live mermaid shows, a fire circus, parades and additional high-seas revelry, including sword demonstrations and a Pirates Pub.
For the little members of the krewe, the Kid’s Zone: The Lil’ Swashbuckler’s Playdeck offers plenty of kid-friendly ways to join the adventure, including caricature artists, friendship bracelet making, foam hats and swords, and other hands-on activities.
At the heart of the festival is a tale rooted in local history: the story of Dominique Youx and his krewe of buccaneers who proudly defended Panama City Beach from treasure-seeking invaders in the early 1800s. Throughout the festival, storytelling, lively performances and other adventures bring guests back to the days when pirates sailed the Gulf.
“Pirates Fest is a signature event that has grown immensely over the past few years, much to the delight of visitors and locals,” said Griff Griffitts, president and CEO of Visit Panama City Beach. “It combines history and family-friendly entertainment in a way that is unique to Panama City Beach, inviting guests of all ages to become part of the adventure.”
The Renaissance portion of the festival brings knights, gentry and old-world festivities to the destination.
Pirates of the High Seas & Renaissance Fest would not be complete without the return of Panama City Beach’s own Pirates of the White Sands. Led by Captain Ransom (Del) Mayhem (Mcrea), this krewe volunteers its time every year to bring this rich history to life through photo opportunities, music, interactions with pirates and games that immerse visitors to the days when buccaneers ruled the Gulf.
Throughout the event dates, visitors will have the opportunity to kick off the day with Breakfast with Pirates, offering an opportunity to meet festival pirates, take photos, and enjoy a fun, family-friendly experience before heading to the festival. The breakfast is free to attend.
