Following on the heels of their State win last month, the GFWC Woman’s Club of Panama City has gone on to win a top award at the GFWC International Convention, held this summer in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Club has been awarded First Place for their 2025/26 Community Impact Program, which focused on the refurbishment of the six family rooms at the Salvation Army’s Domestic Violence Shelter here in Panama City.
Upon learning of their award yesterday, project Chair Kathyrn Bryan noted, “We are all simply thrilled to have put Panama City on the map at the international level, and to have been recognized for all the hard work that went into refurbishing the Shelter.”
Mrs. Bryan went on to say, “GFWC is committed globally to Women’s issues, and in particular Domestic Violence, which remains a top priority for every administration. So, choosing the local Salvation Army Shelter as our community project last year, was a perfect fit for us. The award is certainly meaningful, but the project itself, and the positive impact the renovated house has had on the women who shelter there, is our true reward.”
The Club will officially receive its award, and an accompanying check, at the GFWC Florida Convention in September.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international organization dedicated to improving local communities through volunteer service. GFWC has state federations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. There are 21 International Affiliate Clubs in 12 countries worldwide. GFWC members are community leaders who advocate for domestic violence awareness and prevention programs, and efforts to support children. Volunteers work locally to impact their communities by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles, and encouraging civic involvement.
