Chef Denise Crider doesn’t just teach cooking—she creates experiences. With a career shaped by global flavors, a heart rooted in teaching, and a personality that blends passion with plenty of humor, she’s built something special at The Twisted Fork Culinary Classroom.
Chef Denise formally trained at Johnson & Wales University and Gulf Coast State College, but her real hands-on education came from living life as a Navy Independent. Her husband Bill was a Navy Master Diver, so they got to live in some amazing places, including Hawaii, San Francisco, and Spain. She always jokes that she just followed him around and ate really well, cooked locally and that every place added something to how she looks at food and how she cooks. A self-proclaimed food nerd, she loves learning why things work, not just how.”
In 2008, she and Bill came to Bay County and knew this was where they wanted to put down roots. Bay County “immediately felt like home for us, and it’s such a welcoming, growing community, and people here really appreciate good food and good company,” she says.
For 10 years, Chef Denise was a Chef Instructor at Gulf Coast State College, but for her, teaching has never just been a job. It’s her thing. Her passion. Her heart. Teaching isn’t just something she does; it’s who she is. She loves seeing that moment when something clicks for a student—whether it’s a culinary student preparing for their career or someone just learning to cook for the first time. “It’s the best feeling in the world. Food is just the vehicle, I’m really teaching confidence,” she says.
Chef Denise didn’t want to keep all that knowledge tucked away in a classroom. Her goal has always been to build a culinary community where anyone can step in, learn something new, and maybe laugh a little along the way. That’s exactly what she’s created with The Twisted Fork Culinary Classroom, a place where people can come together, learn, and connect. For her, food does that better than anything else. It brings people together in a real, meaningful way.
Classes at The Twisted Fork are for everyone, and she really means that. This isn’t your typical “stand and watch” cooking class. At The Twisted Fork, you’re in it. Every class is fully hands-on, with your own station, your own chef apron (yes, you get to look the part), and your own recipe packet to take home. It’s part cooking class, part experience, and 100% fun.
And don’t worry about your skill level. Whether you’ve been in the industry for 10 years or you’re still wondering which end of the knife to hold, Chef Denise has you covered. She has a way of meeting people exactly where they are, breaking things down so they actually make sense and making sure you enjoy the process while you’re at it.
Outside of The Twisted Fork, she’s been a familiar face around the community, too. From live local TV segments where she shares recipes and tips, to hosting cooking camps for kids and judging local culinary competitions, Chef Denise has a knack for getting people excited about food.
At the end of the day, her philosophy is simple: great food brings people together. Add in a willingness to learn, a little curiosity, and a lot of laughter, and you’ve got the recipe for something pretty special.
At The Twisted Fork, that “something special” happens every single day—and Chef Denise Crider can’t wait for you to be part of it. There is always room at the table for you.
