It is the oldest arcade in Northwest Florida. Known for its friendly service, great food, and fun games and prizes, Fun-Land has been an iconic attraction on Panama City Beach since 1950.
For visitors and residents alike, Fun-land has been a stopping point for those wanting a cheeseburger and a trip down memory lane. With over 100 different games to choose from including classics such as Ms. Pacman and Galaga, pool tables, and of course some of the newest games on the market, this family-owned business has it all.
Despite the ever-changing landscape of our city, Fun-Land remains one of the last surviving iconic landmarks of old Panama City Beach. Over the years, Fun-Land has survived hurricanes, tornadoes, and a global pandemic, staying true to its goal to provide a fun atmosphere for every member of the family.
For General Manager Ginny McDavid, Fun-Land is all about family. She’s worked at Fun-Land for over two decades, and her husband Joel McDavid was the General Manager until his passing. Now she’s continuing his legacy.
“I’ve been here for 22 years, McDavid explains. “We used to come in and play Ms. Pacman before he used to work here, and we just really loved the place. We came in one day and talked to the owner, and he ran it until he passed away, so it was offered to me and I took it on. I know it would have pleased him.”
For visitors and residents alike, Fun-Land has been a must-do attraction on Panama City Beach. This space has undergone several changes throughout its seventy-year history. It’s been a dance hall, and a gift shop, and has had numerous renovations due to storms. Now though, it’s the family atmosphere and exciting environment that keeps guests coming back.
“It’s just a family place. I feel like everybody is family here,” says McDavid. “It’s just a part of me…after 22 years it’s a part of you. I had a gentleman come in here and tell me that he came in here when he was just a little boy and now [he’s] bringing in [his] grandkids. That happens all the time. We went through a lot of changes with tickets and tokens and now game cards, but it doesn’t stop.”
For McDavid, creating memories with families that last generations is what makes Fun-Land magical. “I love people and I love the children. I have fun with the kids and I’ve become a part of their family.”
Perhaps you want to sit back and reminisce about the good old days when arcades like Fun-Land were commonplace and gas cost less than a dollar over a root beer float at the soda fountain counter. Or perhaps you want to try your luck on any of the countless arcade games. Whether you are young or young at heart, Fun-Land Arcade has something for every generation and they plan on being around for generations to come. Fun-land is located at 14510 Front Beach Rd. in Panama City Beach.
