Let me start by saying our beach schools have always been a beacon of excellence – stellar teachers, an A+ student body – they’re basically the epitome of “what right looks like” when it comes to public education. And while I don’t get to shout it from the rooftops every day, I absolutely jump at the chance to brag about the accomplishments of our schools, teachers, and students whenever I can.
Today, let’s dive into the incredible story of none other than Ben Parsons, a senior sensation at J. R. Arnold High School. Now, Ben’s no stranger to the water – he’s been tearing it up in the swimming scene for years. But, recently, Ben accomplished some swimming feats that are nothing short of incredible, and I want to celebrate him for those achievements.
In the 50-yard freestyle state competition, Ben clinched a solid third place, and smashed his own personal best time by nearly a full second. But wait, there’s more! Ben took the gold in the 100-yard freestyle state competition and was named THE Florida State Champion. Additionally, he also obliterated his old personal best by over a second.
While celebrating Ben and all of his hard work, I’d like to take a minute to also recognize one of the real MVPs behind Ben’s aquatic triumph – the fantastic Jennifer Morgan, the swim and dive coach at Arnold. Major kudos to both Ben and Coach Morgan – their teamwork deserves a standing ovation! Furthermore, it goes without saying, but I need to say it, their efforts are always supported by Arnold Principal Britt Smith and Athletic Director Ricci Green. Their leadership is invaluable, and their support for student-athletes and coaches is endless and appreciated.
I am so proud of all of our student-athletes, and their coaches, who pour countless hours into the pursuit of perfection in their various sports. Congratulations to ALL athletes and coaches, particularly to our newly minted State Champion, Ben Parsons.
