Austen Walker Named City’s 2024 Firefighter of the Year

The City of PCB announced that its 2024 Firefighter of the Year is Firefighter-EMT, Austen Walker.

Austen Walker Named City’s 2024 Firefighter of the YearWalker serves as an active member of the Aquatic Rescue Response Team (ARRT). A certified emergency medical technician, he is credited with saving numerous swimmers in distress. He is an Oklahoma Smoke Diver, an elite distinction that highlights his proven firefighting skills under the most extreme of conditions. Austen plays a pivotal role in training the department’s newest members, ensuring that probationary firefighters receive the highest quality instruction and are well-prepared for future challenges.

Austen joined the City of PCB in 2020 and was nominated by PCB Fire & Rescue Lieutenant-EMT Brent Gust. Lt. Gust nominated Walker “because of his consistent and exceptional high-performance level. His dedication in pursuing a mastery of our craft –and thereby delivering the highest quality of service to our community is unwavering and exceptional.”

Fire Chief Ray Morgan added, “Along with his physical prowess and mental acuity, Austen is a man of fine character who exemplifies the best of our organization. Austen holds himself to account in the highest of standards in all facets. These attributes are reflected by his positive attitude, professionalism, readiness, and effectiveness on the fireground. His interactions with the community confirm his commitment to representing the Department in a consistently positive manner.”

After being notified about the award, Walker expressed his gratitude stating, “From a young age, I’ve held a deep respect for both the military and the fire service. I’ve always had a great appreciation for the humility and professionalism in both career paths. After completing my service in the military, I knew the fire service was where I wanted to be.
