“For you know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night” (I Thessalonians 5:2.)

There appears to be some new hysteria about signs of the coming of the end of the world. The latest involves the drying up of the Euphrates River in the fertile crescent. The theory describes combative forces heading west from the east who will be able to walk across the Euphrates on dry land. This river is very important to countries such as Iran, Iraq, Syria, and many more. Although there has been a diminishing of water for some time now, there are more realistic causes for the lowering of water levels than portending the end of mankind.

Droughts in this area have been, sadly to say, rather common. The overuse of water and fertilizer have both contributed. Population growth is also a huge factor.

Concerning the end of the world, the Bible teaches that signs of this type are exceptionally rare. Now consider this in I Thessalonians 5: “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are NOT IN DARKNESS, so that this day should overtake you as a thief…therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”

We will not have advance notice when God decides to pull back the curtain. We should always be faithful and watching. It will be a glorious day so be prepared. He will receive the righteous unto Himself. Heaven awaits.
